This Week

Now we are inching towards winter, lights become more and more important. The idea of light sources came after the previous electricity outage. You won’t believe it, but on Saturday they have another outage scheduled. Sine we are out for that day with our grand daughter, am posting this early.
In the evening there is still quite a bit of light on  in the open air of the city. In contrast, at the country side, we are glad if there is a lantern on at the corner!

Nice inviting lights in a coffee and
sandwich place.
My friend is a Dutch (painting) artist.
In her 50ties she suddenly got this idea,
she wanted to bake and make sandwiches,
and made it happen.
An attractive and cute place. Their coffee
with apple torte are to die for!

Work lights – Am not the one you see
(just a sliver of me on the right side).
Am very particular about lights
when I’m painting. I need to see the colors
(as close to reality as possible),
and not too brightly, or too dimly lighted.

<>

Performance lights – the gitarist is
one of our friends. He suddenly started
composing songs in his forties,
and made a CD after a few years!
To me this is a big thing,  but he
is very matter of fact and humble
about it. He’s still getting used to
it being photographed by bloggers
and other nitwits:)

<>

Warming lights of our wood stove.
This light is mandatory in winter.

<>

Ceiling lights – financial district, San Francisco

Also in the financial district. Lantern on the sidewalk, and door light!

Decorative lights. In some cities
in California they burn these kind
of lights all year long, instead of
only during Christmas time.
<>

Have they started that habit of the docorative lights in your area too?

  1. I’m happy I got to sneak in a link— woot. Yes, lights are extra important in all the dark and snow. Bleh, daylight savings time coming up soon on top of it. Just put up my Halloween/Thanksgiving string lights and got the fireplace going so that’s something. I think this is going to be a year of lots of candles too. Wish I had a wood stove, bet that smells fantastic. Hope you’re having a warm and sweet Halloween.

  2. I love having our woodstove going this time of year. Plus we have battery powered Christmas style lights up in the cabin. We don’t use them in the summer because it never gets dark enough. Now we can use them from late afternoon on. – Margy

    1. That’s great, Margy! Some of us need a little more light in the darker months to feel okay! Don’t know if you heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder? That is when people have sensitivity towards light – they need a lot. I for instance had to have a window in the office where I worked, otherwise my energy would go down, and start feeling like having the blues..

  3. where would be without lights to light the darkness. Except when you are camping in the outback and want to just gaze up at the stars. But then, they are lights too! Have a great week. Yes, can’t believe it is the end of October already!

  4. You have found beautiful lights to your series! Right now Finland is pitch dark in the evenings until the snow comes 🙂

  5. Interesting photos and subject of light.
I am sad to see the fires in California on the news and the evacuations and power outages. The weather has been so challenging. I hope much-needed rain will arrive soon–it seems it goes where it is not needed. We are already having snow–our second snow this October!

  6. I hope the power outage doesn’t last long. I love that first photo. Those lights are very nice. We will be watching the dancing fire light pretty soon.

  7. Light is very important to me. We lived in a 1920s house for many years and during winter you would have to have the lights on all day, Now that we are in a condo with floor to ceiling windows it makes me much happier. We have light even if the sun isn’t shining. Today looks like a dark foggy day.
I was going to take a course on tubens art but it includes a section on doing a life drawing that I know I would be horrible at.
