Of all four seasons, most mysteries and changes unfurling are in Autumn. It is the most wild and confusing time, totally different from spring, summer, or winter.

In my family Fall is also the time of the most  birthdays in one season: 5 of them! On top of Rosh Hashanah, October Fest, Veteran’s Day, Halloween, All Saints Day, and Thanksgiving !

The following are some experiences of this Fall.

Looking from my living room window.
Who allowed Autumn
to be so indulgent with its colors?

Or, to be so messy, not deciding to be
one thing or the other? What do I call this: a tree with green, orange, brown, yellow, or red leaves?

And, what is that about these dark, almost impenetrable shadows on these mountains in the middle of the afternoon?

Who in the world allowed all these fungi to litter the forest floor??

Of all things, why do people have to work so hard to get everything ready before snow falls?

It’s because it’s King Winter who will rule without mercy in the fourth season.
That’s why.

What or how do  feel about Autumn?

  1. That chopped wood pile is amazing! That’s serious winter preparation! I always appreciate your thoughtful comments. I have a question for you. Last week you mentioned you are writing a book. I would love to read it! Keep us all posted!

  2. We are enjoying the unexpected fall warmth we are finding in California. We’ve driven down from a wet and cool October in BC to what feels like summer. We are bouncing around the Central Valley before we get to the Los Angeles basin in December. Our goal is to have some sun and fun, and not have to winterize our rig. – Margy

  3. Our Swamp (Red) Maples seem to be very confused about the season. They are now sprouting out new leaves before all their colorful old ones have fallen off. Of course, autumn is odd here in south Florida. It is almost time to set out the tomatoes.

  4. Yes, we are afraid of King Winter and have to prepare in many ways – as do squirrels! The mountain view with its shadows is gorgeous. In my family we also celebrate many birthdays in the autumn, yesterday I attended the 10th birthday party of a grandson and today we celebrate dads. These bring joy in the darkness! Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
